~Review: How To Fall by Jane Casey~

How To Fall (Jess Tennant #1)
Jane Casey
Expected publication: August 26th 2014 by St. Martin's Griffin

Sixteen-year-old Jess Tennant has never met any of her relatives, until her mom suddenly drags her out of London to spend the summer in the tiny English town where her family’s from. Her mom’s decision is surprising, but even more surprising is the town’s reaction to Jess. Everywhere she goes, people look at her like they’ve seen a ghost. In a way, they have—she looks just like her cousin Freya, who died shortly before Jess came to town.

Jess immediately feels a strange connection to Freya, whom she never got to meet alive. But the more Jess learns about the secrets Freya was keeping while she was alive, the more suspicious Freya’s death starts to look. One thing is for sure: this will be anything but the safe, boring summer in the country Jess was expecting.

Beloved author Jane Casey breaks new ground with How to Fall, a thrilling and insightfully written mystery.

Leaving London for the summer, Jess and her mother are visiting Port Sentinel, her mother's hometown.  Having not been back in years, Jess has never gotten the chance to meet her aunt and cousins.  When Jess ventures out in town people give her strange looks.  Her cousin Freya drowned a year ago and they look just alike.  The could have passed for twins.

Jess likes the small town atmosphere.  She meets some of Freya's friends and starts wondering about Freya's death.  They say it was a suicide but those closest to Freya knows that she would not have jumped to her death off that cliff.  Through Freya's art journals Jess meets a cousin that she never knew.  Some people don't want her snooping around Freya's death and will kill to keep the truth buried forever.

This was a wonderful young adult crime thriller.  Jess Tennant is the new girl in a small town.  She is strong, tough and doesn't back down from the mean girls and bullies.  Will is the boy next door who was good friends with Freya.  Jess may be attracted to him, but is he hiding something?  Everyone is a suspect is this thrilling new book.  I enjoyed the small town setting and the likable characters.  It was a quick and easy read.  The only reason I gave it 4 stars was because it took a long time to get into the storyline.  The first few chapters were long.  It just needed to move quicker.

All in all this is a great read by an exciting author.  A wonderful attempt at writing for the YA genre fans. I look forward to the next installment in this series.

I received a copy of this book from NetGalley for a fair and honest review.  This in no way influenced my thoughts or review.
