Pretty and popular track star Marijke Monti is confident about almost everything – she’s got great friends, a great family, and she’s on her way to the State Track Championship. In fact, the only thing Marijke isn’t confident about is her relationship with Tommy Lawson.

Lily Spencer has spent her entire high school career preparing for the future – she’s participated in every extracurricular activity and volunteer committee she could. But, at home, she watches her mother go on date after date with dud-dudes, still searching for “the one.” Lily realizes that she’s about to graduate and still hasn’t even had a boyfriend.

While they live on each other’s periphery at school, Lily and Marijke never seemed to have much in common; but, after a coincidental meeting at the movie theater, Lily gets an idea – why can’t life be like a movie? Why can’t they set up their perfect romantic situations, just in time for their senior prom, using movie techniques?

Once the girls come up with the perfect plans, they commit themselves to being secret cohorts and, just like in the movies, drama ensues.

Marijke Monti is the "it" girl of her high school.  She is a top track athlete, has the perfect boyfriend and all the right clothes and accessories.  So what if she has been neglecting her friends.  She needs all of her spare time to hang out with Tommy.  Lily Spencer is the wallflower.  Always on the planning committee but never taking part in the events she plans.  Sacrificing herself and her spare time for volunteer work that looks good on her college applications.  Why shouldn't she?  Her mother is always out with one of her loser boyfriends.  Spending night after night with them instead of Lily and her little brother.

When Marijke and Lily meet by chance they hatch the perfect plan.  Marijke is feeling neglected by her boyfriend and Lily confesses to having a crush on Joe, the bad boy hottie who doesn't know she is alive.  With their shared love of movies, they will use their favorite movie scenes to catch the eye of their favorite men.  A perfect plan or a set up for disaster?

This is a  fun cute read.  The plot was a refreshing change from what I have been reading.  I love all the references to the old 80's movies that I know so well.  It is funny and laugh out loud in parts where, surprisingly, the girls manage to make fools out of themselves.

Marijke makes me mad at times.  In her relationship with Tommy, she is the one who is doing all of the work.  He is a flirt and likes the attention of other girls much too well even though he tries to reassure Marijke that she is the only one for him.  Listen people.  Never invest all your happiness on a guy!  Marijke needs to make her own decisions, including college, on what she wants.  I am proud of her in the end.  Her character change shows so much growth and maturity.

Lily Spencer is hilarious.  She has loved Joe for two years and finally, with Marijke's help gets him to notice her.  Will Lily put her heart on the line or be the mousy wallflower she is so comfortable with?

These two girls grow and mature a lot by the end of this book and learn that sometimes in life the only one you can count on to make decisions for you is yourself.  Run and buy this book!

I received this book from NetGalley for a fair and honest review.  This in no way influence my thoughts or review.
