~YA BookTour, Guest Post and Giveaway: Speak Out Against...~

Every year, millions of youth will become victims of violence. Some of the most common forms of violence are bullying and dating abuse.

1 in 4 teens will be bullied, and 1 in 3 teens will become a victim of dating violence.

Bullying is defined as the use of superior strength or influence to intimidate someone, typically to force him/her to do what one wants.

Dating abuse is a form of bullying within a relationship. It is when one partner exerts power and control over the other.

Bullying and dating abuse can be in the form of not only physical force or violence, but it can be quiet and underhanded, too. Emotional, verbal, financial, sexual, and digital (such as cyberbullying, and/or sexting) are other forms of bullying or dating abuse and control.

Both dating abuse and bullying uses power to control others and are common problems among youth.

Schools are expected to be a safe place for youth, but all too often students are presented with acts of violence that have devastating effects on them, their school, and their community.

And the problems are all too often ignored. 85% of the time no one will intervene with bullying, and over 81% of parents believe that dating abuse is not a problem.

Some feel bullying is a normal part of childhood, and teens in abusive relationships sometimes feel that what they are experiencing is a normal part of love.

But it isn’t.

Kids shouldn’t be afraid to go to school. Love shouldn’t hurt.

Bullying and dating abuse are major issues and are not a normal part of life. It is time to raise our voices and Speak Out Against the devastating issues of bullying and dating abuse.

Our new releases…

Noelle dreams of a different life, one where Trina Brockwell doesn’t exist. Trina has bullied Noelle since junior high. Now she’s tired of it. With the help of her black-sheep aunt and a defiant new classmate, Noelle seeks revenge. But vengeance comes with a price: Noelle risks friendship, her first love, and herself to get back at those who have wronged her.

My review:
Wow!  What an amazing book.  It grabs you from the first chapter and never lets go.  This book follows Noelle as she enters high school as a freshman and follows her until after graduation.

Noelle and her best friend Grace have always dreamed about being popular.  They are tired of being picked on by Trina Brockwell and her band of minions.  Noelle knows no amount of makeup will make Trinia like her, she just wants the bulling to stop.

With a rebellious older sister, an overbearing mother, and a father who is not emotionally there, what is Noelle to do?  You will laugh and cry throughout this story.  Some of the story is hard to read.  I am still shocked (not surprised) by the ending.  You will even ask yourself Why?  Why are kids so mean to each other?  Why does someone else's pain cause them happiness?  When does it stop?

I could talk about this book for hours but I do not want to give anything away.  You will have to read it for yourself.  I recommend this wonderful book to anyone, especially high school kids.

My Review:
This is another one of those books that grips you from the first chapter.  It is such a good, wonderfully written novel.  I have to admit some parts are hard to read but it will change your life.

Brooke has always been a good girl.  When the handsome and popular, Drew, starts talking to her and asking her out, she falls hard for him.  They are the perfect couple.  The pretty and polite girl and the handsome and wealthy football star.  It sounds too good to be true.

After a devastating fire, Brooke is saved by the also handsome Cooper, who is very different than Drew.  Brooke has to examine her life and decide what is best for her.  She really loves Drew and is fiercely loyal to him but love shouldn't hurt, right?  With a shocking twist, she finally decides what she needs to do, who she needs to hold onto, and who she needs to let go.

This is the first book that I have read in a long time that made me angry.  It is hard for me to comprehend how someone stays with an abusive partner. How awful it must be to live in fear every moment of your life.   This is a touchy subject and the author did a wonderful job bringing the story to life.  I recommend this book for everyone!

Crossroads Excerpt:

He held me gently with both of his arms and wings this time.  All I needed was his touch, for him to hold me that way; it made all the difference in the world.  I was safe again.  Without thought, I turned toward him.  The look in his eyes was so tempting, telling me that he wanted me too.  I knew it was impossible for him to want and need me the same way, but his eyes told me something else. The depth of my yearning and what I wanted to do at this very moment was undeniable.
I leaned toward him and tenderly placed a kiss on his supple lips to thank him.  It was an innocent kiss.  What was the harm in just one small kiss?  I was extremely surprised that he didn’t push me away.  I was even more surprised at myself.  I was never the type to make the first move.
“Thank you for saving me,” I whispered, looking straight into his soulful eyes, as something came over me.  Uncontrollable heat ran through my body.  He was right.  It was dangerous, but it was me who couldn’t control myself.  His eyes gave me permission to continue, so I gave him another kiss, but slower and longer this time.  He kissed me back, but with much hesitation.  His lips were warm and sweet like honeysuckle, just how I imagined they would be.  The warmth spread all over my body like a blazing fire.
Still holding me, he pulled me away with a sudden jerk, his eyes piercing into mine with anger.  His left hand was tightly wrung around my hair and the other gripping my shirt so I could feel the tightness from it.  Panting, wanting more of him, I forgot how to breathe, and so did he.  His eyes, still fierce with anger, gripped me even tighter as he slightly pushed and pulled me, fighting and uncertain of what he wanted to do.  Feeling petrified, I had to prepare myself for the consequence of my actions, for I knew I had crossed the line.

About The Author

Angela Scott hears voices. Tiny fictional people sit on her shoulders and whisper their stories in her ear. Instead of medicating herself, she decided to pick up a pen, write down everything those voices tell me, and turn it into a book. She's not crazy. She's an author. For the most part, she writes contemporary Young Adult novels. However, through a writing exercise that spiraled out of control, she found herself writing about zombies terrorizing the Wild Wild West--and loving it. Her zombies don't sparkle, and they definitely don't cuddle. At least, she wouldn't suggest it. She lives on the benches of the beautiful Wasatch Mountains with two lovely children, one teenager, and a very patient husband. She graduated from Utah State University with a B.A. degree in English, not because of her love for the written word, but because it was the only major that didn't require math. She can't spell, and grammar is her arch nemesis. But they gave her the degree, and there are no take backs.
